In 2012 Jeremy stepped down as Managing Director of Chinawhite nightclub in London, where he had overall responsibility for the financial management, operations, business development, marketing and public relations of the club. Starting in a Business Development role he was promoted to Head of Operations in September 2000, appointed to the Board in March 2002 and became a shareholder and Managing Director in August 2003 overseeing net revenues in excess of £5m per annum and a payroll in excess of 60 staff.

Jeremy was responsible for the relocation and re-launch of the new Chinawhite in October 2009, raising £2.5m in bank/investor funding during the credit crunch and culminating in the “Best New Club” accolade at The London Club and Bar Awards 2010.

Additional notable achievements during the Chinawhite tenure included establishing The Mao Rooms restaurant & bar in Ibiza, the negotiation and acquisition of Morton’s, the Berkeley Square private members club, and the creation, event management and promotion of the Chinawhite enclosure at The Cartier International Polo 2000 – 2011 (growing the event from 200 to 5,000 guests throughout this period). The event became internationally recognised as an integral part of the British social season; generating in excess of £1m rate card publicity and double digit profit ratios annually. In addition Jeremy was instrumental in the creation of Taman gang, the Park Lane asian-style restaurant and also in the acquisition, re-licencing and refurbishment of the London Hippodrome.

Prior to this period Jeremy held the position of Events Manager at Roger Michael PR (1997 – 1999), involving the pitching, account handling and event management of high-profile celebrity led media events including the launch of Vivienne Westwood’s fragrance “Boudoir”, The Moet & Chandon Fashion Tribute at the V&A and the Gala Night opening of The Cosmopolitan Show at Earls Court. The role also involved working with organisations such as Elida Faberge, L’Oreal and United Distillers in creating sponsorship opportunities within club culture to communicate brand identities to the youth market. Additional responsibilities included marketing consultation for club and bar launches throughout the U.K. and in New York, Paris and Ibiza.

After graduating from Oxford Brookes University in 1996 and gaining a B.A. (hons) degree in Business Studies, Jeremy joined Hype Energy, an energy/lifestyle drink, as Sales & Marketing executive with a brief to work on the launch into the U.K. club and youth scene. After 6 months he was promoted to Market Manager, involving responsibility for sales, marketing and promotions for the U.K., Ireland and Ibiza. Reporting to the European Managing Director and with leadership responsibilities for 6 team members, setting and monitoring sales targets, he took the U.K. business from £0.5m/year to £1.2m/year. The role gave Jeremy extensive international negotiation and sales experience in opening marketing and distribution channels, consumer sampling & promotions, public relations, advertising, music events sponsorship and production (including The Brighton Music Festival, Tribal Gathering’s “Big Love”, Clockwork Orange (Ibiza) and European Club Tours including “Trade” and “Northern Exposure”). Jeremy was also responsible for Hype Energy’s world-wide motorsports sponsorship including the Williams Formula 1 Team, Kawasaki Superbikes and the K2 International Mountain Bike Team with a total operating budget of £5m.

During his time at Oxford Brookes University and whilst previously at The King’s School Worcester in the late 1980’s, Jeremy started The Sub-Bass Sound Company, providing sound, lighting and upscale disco systems to local black-tie balls, weddings, concerts, clubs & theatres. He also had several stints working for Birmingham sound hire company, The Cloud One Group, in various roles from roadie to speaker cabinet manufacture right through to sound engineering.

Jeremy splits his time between London and Gloucestershire and is married with two step-sons, has a passion for live music and is a member of the Cheltenham Jazz Festival advisory group.

Testimonials

I have worked with Jeremy several times during the last 15 years, most recently with him assisting us to secure sponsorship partners for Mr & Mrs Smith. The entertainment and hospitality industries are littered with 'chancers', so his wealth of experience, contacts, high standards and ability to deliver are extremely rare and refreshing.

James Lohan, Founder & CEO, Mr & Mrs Smith

"rhubarb food design" have had the pleasure of working with Jeremy Hartley on The Cartier International Polo since 2008 - Jeremy and rhubarb have always had a light minded and fun approach to these events and together with Jeremy's buffet of mad fun ideas and concepts and rhubarb's ability to convert these ideas and produce for excess of one thousand guests it has been a winning combination. We have always produced a seamless event flow with outstanding results. A no nonsense yet fair approach with contractors gets everyone to deliver as a team. On personal note I am of huge admiration and praise for Jeremy - he is a true professional and a natural at parties and organising them - he has a great way with dealing with people and I would have no hesitation in recommending him to help and advise on any event - I would guarantee the journey of the event will be as fun and the event itself !!

I have known Jeremy for the best part of 15 years! I first met him when he joined the Chinawhite team and masterminded the marketing and branding of Chinawhite to become the globally recognised brand that it is.

I have had the great pleasure and privilege of working for the top nightclubs in London especially, and throughout the UK; Jeremy is one of the hardest working and efficient operators that I have ever come across.

Jeremy has an amiable and relaxed style which make him a joy to work with, but under that undeniable charm there is a consummate hard working professional that will never let you down.

Julian Skeens, Director and Head of Licensing, Jeffrey Green Russell.

In an industry based upon constant change, Jeremy has the wisdom of ages. He would be my first resort when launching something new or defending a commercial challenge.

Ian Glen Q.C.

I have had the pleasure of working with Jeremy for ten years on various campaigns and projects. Jeremy has an unrivalled understanding of the events and hospitality business. Not only does he have a brilliant understanding of his audiences but he has an exceptional business head and a laser focussed eye for detail. He has a fantastic work ethic and is greatly admired and respected by his industry peers, partners and teams.

Laura Wood, Partner, The Brooklyn Brothers.

We have been fortunate enough to secure Jeremy's help in the development of Cheltenham Jazz Festival. He provides that wonderful combination of someone who can spend time on the detail as well as develop a long-term vision. He manages to keep everybody's feet firmly on the floor undertaking practical steps whilst motivating them to achieve the long-term goal. He has strong business acumen and the ability to spot a business opportunity. There are very few people who have such a passion for high quality entertainment and the ability to ensure every detail is covered to provide people with a truly uplifting experience. We greatly value his contribution to the Cheltenham Jazz Advisory Group

Donna Renney, Chief Executive, Cheltenham Festivals

I have worked with Jeremy for over 4 years and have always been struck by his professionalism, calm and collected manner and wealth of experience in the entertainments sector. His amenable manner means that he is able to deal successfully with a wide range of people from all walks of life and his extensive contact base means that he invariably does. I would have no hesitation in recommending Jeremy's expertise to anyone and a project's success would undoubtedly be heightened with Jeremy at the helm.

Jules Stevenson, Co-Founder, GSP

I have acted for Jeremy for some 13 years, not only in the financial administration of Chinawhite, but in 6 other related business ventures in the entertainment industry. In advising him, I have always found him to be responsive, reliable and thoughtful throughout, and its these qualities together with his years of experience in the leisure industry which will make his new consultancy unique, as it will be offering, an educated, experienced and commercial advice to its clients.

Richard Ward, Partner, Brebners Chartered Accountants & Business Advisors.

From the very first moment I met Jeremy I knew that we had a good leader. He is a man who enjoys life but also has a serious responsibility to his work and the well-being of the company. He showed particular attention to detail in his day to day work, whether it was finances, design work, the look of the Club or the personnel. He also has great business acumen and the financial foresight to be able to read trends. He guided the company through to enormous successes with only a couple of other clubs in London having been in existence for over 14 years.

Due to his great organisational skills he engineered the entire move of Chinawhite, finding the site and raising the finance during a recession; the entire project was a mammoth task and it went through like a well-oiled machine. His 'piece de resistance' was the Chinawhite enclosure at The Cartier International Polo, where he created a great lunch for a 1,800 and then an after party for 6,000 on a polo field in Windsor Great Park; an Oscar piece of work which in turn helped Chinawhite to become a global name. He is a great character and it would be a pleasure to work with him again.

John Stephen, Chairman, Chinawhite

Probably the most challenging aspect of providing concise and clear direction is satisfying the interests and opinions of a myriad of shareholders. Jeremy achieved this unenviable task when delivering a brief and continued instructions on Chinawhite.

Taking an iconic brand which was trading to its maximum potential and re launching it in a new location whilst maintaining its commercial success was in itself a poisoned chalice, add the personal involvement of international investors and operators then the task becomes neigh on impossible. However, through calm discussion, coordination and negotiation, Jeremy was able to maintain the trust of his shareholders and deliver instructions to the professional team.

Jeremy's understanding of the complex processes associated with delivering projects on time, on budget and in difficult locations whilst maintaining a unique design philosophy has not been bettered in my experience.

Adrian Abel, Director, Tibbatts*Abel, Interior Designers and Architects

Working with Jeremy for a number of years on The Cartier International Polo was thoroughly enjoyable. A quick thinker and effective decision-maker, his no-nonsense style means his advice is trusted and valued across the board. Jeremy has an amazing sense of humour and a capacity for producing results with bespoke events and nightclub strategies that are second to none. His natural ability to understand goals and intuitively deliver meaningful direction is at the heart of his success and all of these qualities combined make him ideally suited to the professional path he has taken - the quality of his work is exceptional.
